Interview prep workbook with a STAR story bank

Most interview advice says "prepare your stories." This workbook shows you how, in four steps: research the role, build a bank of STAR stories, practice the questions out loud, and walk in knowing the three things you want them to remember.

Four steps to a prepared interview

The Interview Prep Workbook is 24 pages plus three filled-in examples.

  • Research: company and role research, a Job Description Match that puts their requirements next to your proof, your "Tell me about yourself" answer, and planned answers to tough questions like gaps, weaknesses and salary.
  • Story bank: a STAR story page for each story (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and an index that matches stories to the questions they answer.
  • Practice: 20 common behavioral questions, role questions, a practice log and smart questions to ask them.
  • Interview day and after: a day plan, interview notes, a debrief and thank-you note, salary prep with your walk-away number, and an offer comparison for up to three offers.

Why a story bank works

Behavioral questions all start with "Tell me about a time..." If you prepare six to eight strong stories, each one can answer several questions: a project that went wrong can cover conflict, failure and problem solving. The Story Bank Index helps you see which stories cover which questions, so there are no gaps.

You only do the research and story bank once. After that, each new interview needs a short refresh, not a full start.
